VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
Generally
Originally, the F355 GTS, like all F355 models, was available with a traditional 6-speed manual transmission with an open gate shifter. From 1997/1998, Ferrari offered the revolutionary F1 gearbox as an option – an electro-hydraulically automated manual transmission with paddle shifters on the steering wheel, derived directly from Formula 1 and enabling lightning-fast gear changes. This technological innovation was groundbreaking in its time and made the F355 a pioneer in the series production of sports cars with a sequential gearbox. However, GTS models with the F1 gearbox are rarer than those with a manual transmission. Of the 11,273 F355s produced, only 2,624 were equipped with the F1 gearbox, and specifically only 529 examples of the F355 GTS were built with the F1 gearbox, making them highly sought-after collector's items today.

Just one year later, it changed hands for the first and only time, passing to a sports car collector from Bavaria. After more than 26 years in his possession, the vehicle is now offered for sale.

Special features
In 1989, Ferrari became the first manufacturer to present an electro-hydraulic clutch system controlled by levers on the steering wheel in Nigel Mansell's Formula 1 car. This successful innovation was then adapted by Ferrari for the first time in 1997 for the Ferrari F355 F1, demonstrating the great importance Ferrari places on motorsport in its development. Also in 1997, at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, Ferrari presented the "Carrozzeria Scaglietti" customization program, giving customers the opportunity to create a vehicle according to their individual tastes and specific wishes. The first three customized Ferraris were created for three very special clients: Sergio Pininfarina's 456 GTA, Michael Schumacher's 550 Maranello, and Paul Cayard's F355 GTS. The special features of the Ferrari F355 GTS “Paul Cayard” include a removable carbon fiber soft top, a dashboard dome with a carbon fiber center console, carbon fiber door inserts, racing sports seats in a leather/fabric combination, a carbon fiber center tunnel with special storage, a 6-disc CD changer, carbon fiber running boards with aluminum Ferrari logo and a carbon fiber handbrake lever cover.
